Winter 2019 - 25. Water in the Room.

25.  Water in the Room.

I kind of saw it coming. For a few days already the A/C had some water running off it. We mentioned it to the front desk and they said they would keep an eye on it, but when the A/C stopped working we made it a point to tell them it’s broken.
Waiting for the AC to be Repaired

Within a few hours a man came, inspected the A/C unit and said it needed a cleaning. He worked on the machine for a few hours, while we read our books on the veranda.

Long story short, we had to move into another room. The A/C needed more than just a cleaning.

So now we are exactly next door to where we have been for about 10 days.

Same room just mirrored.  The crew of the hotel moved all of our stuff. It was an easy move.

All the Furniture Is Made of Bamboo
Nobody got bent out of shape that something did not work. They took it as a fact of life and took the next step. I liked the way they handled the inconvenience of it all.

We could learn something from that, especially in NYC.  I remember a scene where Dustin Hoffman is walking across the street in Urban Cowboy, yelling at a taxi driver: “Yo, I’m walking here!”  Such ‘self-importance’ is unheard of in Bali.

I guess in Bali you learn early….S@#t happens!   You go with the flow!

Yes, we had water on the floor…. Yes, the A/C did not work…   OK, what’s next?

Winter -2019 - 24. Our Daily Routine

24.  Our Daily Routine

Breakfast
When I write about some highlights we found in Bali you might think we are constantly on the go. When we stay in one spot for a month or so, we try to live a ‘normal’ life.

OK, we don’t cook as much when we are on ‘vacation’ but we try to stay put, near the town at least. I am sure that when you are at home you don’t visit all the attractions your State or Province has to offer every day, do you?

When we move away from the snow in Toronto, it’s because I just don’t want to shovel snow!

In Bali, in the place we are in, there is no cooking facility, so I get a vacation from cooking, too.
Exploring the Neighbourhood

While our routine is kind of like yours…. We sleep until about 8 AM, and then go for breakfast. The nice thing here is we kind of roll out of bed and breakfasts are served to us. We have some choices in what we’ll have that day, but it’s just nice to walk to the table and sit down and eat. We take our iPads with us because with our 2nd cup of coffee, we read the news, check the emails, etc.  It’s relaxing.

So about 9.30 AM we need to decide what to do. Yes, some days we just go back to the veranda in front of the room and read. We have tons of books on our iPad, so we can read anything we have stored there. Most days, however we walk. Walk, walk and more walking is our motto.  Carol wears a Fitbit and she has a goal of at least 10,000 steps a day… we usually exceed that in a day.

Lunch is around 1 PM, we have many options where to eat. We make it a point to find places that are off the beaten track, it means walking to it. We scour the back roads to find unique places; we usually eat while we are on the way, in our search for what interests us.
If it gets very hot, like close to 35 C (95F) we hide in our room.
I love A/C; not being used to the heat makes me appreciate this invention a lot. The heat is one thing, the humidity?  Yuk!
Checking Out These Fierce Wooden Masks
Dinner is kind of after dark. We are near the Equator here in Bali; we always have close to a 12 hour day and 12 hour night. Come 6 PM, darkness drops on to us very quickly. Another good invention was the light bulb.

Ah, our daily routine is like yours… before you know it the day has passed.

The best?  The very best part of being here?  NO WORK!  Ah, you cannot imagine how nice it is to not HAVE TO work for a living.

Supper at Cafe Des Artistes
I am smiling while I write this!   But keep reading… I’ll tell you what else we found on Bali and beyond.

I am glad you are jealous!  I was too at your age!
