TAS. 6 Flea Market Plus
|
The Market |
After
a wonderful breakfast we went just down the hill to the, already in progress Market.

What Would You Do With These? |
|
Fairy Skirts |
It’s not a flea market with old stuff, etc. but it’s a long, one lane
aisle of thoroughly mixed presentations of many kinds. Performers, handcrafts,
food vendors and some really odd stuff were all mixed together. It was a very
random kind of aisle where you had to really look at everything. This aisle was
long; it took a good 2 hours to walk from one end to the other, stopping all
the time to look.
|
Busker |
Naturally, we had to walk back because we had to see this or
that item ‘again’, had to explore it some more, had to study it, whatever 'it'
was.
And,
even though we had a good breakfast, we had to have a nibble of this and that.
|
Man Eating Shark |
Right
after lunch, which we bought at the Flea market but ate at our hotel room, we
took the ferry and now are on the way to MONA. The quirkiest museum I have
seen, stuffed with all kinds of exhibits, yet none of the exhibits are permanent.
When YOU go there, there will be something else shown, but I bet you it’s going
to blow your mind.

Mona Roma - Boat to the Museum |
|
Graffiti on the Boat |
|
2 Doors to the Toilets Hidden in the Graffiti |
It
started off on the ferry. Nothing you can imagine will come close to what you will see, you have to see MONA.
The ferry is already part of MONA and the walls on the ferry are covered in graffiti.
MONA is on an Island and there are 2 stops. One for the masses to disembark and
then there is a bit later pier for people who need help climbing up the stairs
to the actual Museum. We chose the latter stop because the incline to the actual
building is rather steep and we wanted to preserve our energy for the actual

Golf Cart Waiting For Us Behind the Trees |
exhibitions, not get spent already climbing. So when we walked off the ferry, a
golf cart waited to drive us up, but…all seats were taken…Carol was lucky, she
could get a ride… but I had to climb…A good hill to climb, it made me puff.
|
MONA Entrance Is the Black Rectangle on the Right |
MONA
is strange. From the parks outside, to the entrance, to the inside shows, all
are very, very strange.
Here is an assortment of what was inside for us, I say
us because if you go to it, there will be other exhibitions, other shows.
Art
at the MONA is not stodgy, not permanent, it’s constantly changing, and
constantly challenges your perception of life as it is. Carol just shook her
head, she did not get some of the stories the museum wanted to tell. I can see
her point but I also love it.
As
you can tell by the few stories I will write for each part of the exhibitions
we saw. I like the strange. Love the weird. It shows me that anything can be
‘art’.
|
Ugly Industrial Buildings |
Ferry: A nice ride of
about 25 minutes from the pier to the actual Museum, passing heavy industry…
ugly buildings, ugly views but also provocative graffiti on board, all over the
ship. It seems we are gliding into something distorted.
|
MONA Entrance |
Entrance: A zig-zag walk to reach the
entrance… but it was difficult to find the actual door, because the highly
polished wall surrounding the portal showed the world we were in. I guess once
you step inside it’s a different world.
|
Would You Know This Is an Elevator? |
Elevator:
Disorientation in a good way. The perspectives surely changed. Can you
make out that I am standing in an elevator?
|
Flying Saucers? Eyes? |
Eyes on the Wall: These shields or
flying saucers, those 'eyes' are from the future, it’s up to you to put on a
different way of looking at things.
|
Wedding Feast Menu |
Not a dinner for 2: a bit of a shocker to
see the set up for dinner in a museum. It seemed to be a wedding feast planned for some special folks. Read the menu.
|
A Lot of Guests Expected |
|
The Machine Picks Your Beer For You |
They pick the beer: it’s a crap shoot what kind of beer you get from the Moo
Roulette. You put in your money and you get a beer, but you don’t know what
kind.
|
You Might Get Any One of These |
And
that was just the beginning of the Museum.
There
was so much to see that I could have spent days going through each section. I
will write more extensively under the name MONA in a future blog, but for now I
just say we (especially I) had a wonderful time seeing this museum.
I
am still aglow and awed even though it is now 6 months later. Mona is a must see
should you ever go to Hobart.
